Dr Joachim de Miranda has spent the last 12 years studying honey bee viruses. He is currently based at the University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, Sweden. This article is a popular adaptation of the chapter on “Varroa and viruses” in the IBRA book “Varroa – Still a problem in the 21st century?”. It has also appeared in “Bijenhouden” (in Dutch; August 2011).
