Vicia faba L. (Faba vulgaris Moench), the faba, field, tick, horse or broad bean, is the sixth most important pulse crop in terms of global production, after soyabean, dry (Phaseolus) bean, groundnut (Arachis), dry (field) pea and chickpea. An important food crop in North Africa, the Middle East and China, it is also well adapted to agriculture in much of Europe, where it has been grown for four millenia or more.
