Abstract
Stingless bees are often the poor relations of the bee world, receiving far less attention than Apis honey bees, with their obvious and enormous commercial importance, or the cuddly temperate bumble bees which are still abundant in the suburban gardens of nature lovers. Stingless bees fill an important ecological niche in diverse environments as well as contributing to economic activity in often remote areas. However, many of their species, like other bees, have declined in recent years and many are threatened.
