Nairobi was a particularly apt venue for the Third International Conference on Apiculture in Tropical Climates: it is only 1.5° S of the equator, and Kenya has played an important part in the development of beekeeping technology-such as the Kenya top bar hive-which is appropriate to other tropical and subtropical countries.
