Microscopic analysis of honeys from Alberta, Canada

Abstract
An analysis of pollen and honeydew elements was carried out on 36 samples of honey from the province of Alberta, Canada, most of which were collected in 1983. Results indicated three pollen types characteristic of the province; Brassicaceae (mustard family), Melilotus spp. (sweet clover) and Trifolium hybridum/T. repens (alsike clover and white clover). Almost all of the honeys were unifloral with two types predominating: Brassicaceae and Trifolium hybridum/T. repens. Honeydew elements were present in very small quantities. Several regional characteristics are shown.
