Isaac Hopkins was born in 1836 in England but emigrated to New Zealand in 1865. For 38 years he contributed to New Zealand Fruit Grower and Apiarist. He did not claim to have discovered the method of queen rearing that bears his name rather that he was the first to report the method in the English language.
