Abstract
The first Varroa jacobsoni mite detected in the German Federal Republic was found in Spring 1977 in an apiary of the Oberursel Bee Institute. At that time it was known that Varroa was approaching our region from the countries of Eastern Europe. The Oberuesel infestation site preceded the expected arrival of Varroa by approximately two years.
