Some beekeepers believe that eating the wax cappings off honeycomb can desensitize a hayfever sufferer to pollen. Professor Dennis Stanworth, Head of the Allergy and Rheumatology Unit of Birmingham University, UK, who is investigating this claim thinks it may have some foundation. Wax cappings contain pollen, and wax is known to enhance the effect of pollen in desensitizing injections.
