Abstract
Jan Karpowicz has had over 5 years beekeeping experience in the Middle East, working in the Sultanate of Oman and the Yemen Arab Republic. In this article he describes traditional beekeeping in the Yemen Arab Republic and illustrates the wide variety of traditional equipment that has been developed in relative isolation. He shows that even though beekeeping is a profitable industry with at least a thousand-year-old pedigree, there is great scope for introducing appropriately based ideas.
