A method to obtain dated brood in honeybee colonies

Abstract
In various studies age of honeybee eggs, larvae or pupae is an important parameter and several methods for dating of brood have been applied. Which method is used depends largely on the following conditions:
(a) the number of brood cells needed
(b) the availability of dated brood largely or exclusively on a few combs, one comb or a part of a comb
(c) the availability of dated brood at a fixed time; delay is not acceptable
(d) the variance in age of dated brood which is acceptable
