Abstract
A comparative !lnalysis of fatty acids and sterols in colony- and laboratory-stored pollen from the same source revealed some important differences. The sterol ester concentration was 56% higher in pollen stored in the colony; there was also a much lower concentration of the essential fatty acids linoleic (C18 : 2) and linolenic (C18 : 3), and more of the saturated CI6 and CI8 acids.
