Abstract

Dr Helen Thompson joined the Central Science Laboratory in 1988 and moved to the National Bee Unit (NBU) in 1996 taking over as the Laboratory Technical Manager on relocation of the NBU to its new site in York. Mike Brown joined the NBU in 1988, becoming Field Technical Manager, heading the Bee Inspectors' team in 1994. This article was originally presented at IBRA's 1998 Autumn Conference and outlines the important work carried out at the NBU on disease control and beekeeper training under its Bee Health Programme.
