Beekeeping Around the World: Traditional stone apiaries in Malta

Abstract
A new report provides evidence that many colonies of honey bees were kept in apiaries in the Mellieha area in north-west Malta. It describes three stone bee houses and 13 cave apiaries, which together could have held over 600 traditional hives.
