Abstract Slovenia is one of the smallest countries in Europe with many beekeepers and the native race of honey bee is the Carniolan bee, Apis mellifera carnica. It has good conditions for beekeeping and a great beekeeping tradition. Most Slovenian beekeepers do not keep bees to make a profit, but for various reasons.
